Redford Township man now charged in stranger danger incident

Police say man offered 6-year-old girl candy, she ran away unharmed

REDFORD TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Redford Township police said Thursday they had located a suspect in a stranger danger incident involving a 6-year-old girl.

The Redford Township man is identified as 52-year-old Terry Lee Kostiuk. He will be arraigned Sunday afternoon on charges of attempting to solicit a minor for an immoral purpose after trying to lure a 6-year-old into his car.

What happened

Police said the girl was on a sidewalk Wednesday in the area of Poinciana, south of 7 Mile Road, when a man in a red Ford Fusion approached her and asked if she wanted candy.

"I didn't say anything, I just got on my scooter and rode all the way back home," said the girl, Madison McCue.

Her mother, Christine Romain, said she was watching her little girl walk a few feet to a neighbor's house and saw it all happen.

"She knows. She knows ... not to talk to strangers if they ask if you want to pet an animal, help them find an animal. Say no. He's not getting my kid," said Romain.

Police released a composite sketch of the suspect.
