Taxi cab requirements to look for in wake of Ann Arbor student attacks U of M students urged to use taxicab check list after recent cab assaults
Look for a city of Ann Arbor bond plate on the outside rear of all cab vehicles.
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Police want students and citizens to be aware of the legal operating requirements for cabs driven in Ann Arbor.
The warning comes after three female college students from the University of Michigan recently reported being assaulted by a cab driver.
Campus police said a student told them she hailed a cab in the 1200 block of South University to her off-campus apartment on February 2.
The cab driver in this case pulled off into a parking lot and assaulted the student.
The third incident happened Feb. 11, when a 23-year-old student leaving The Brown Jug Bar on S. University was attacked by a cab driver.

Items cabs should display: A city of Ann Arbor bond plate on the outside rear of the vehicle.
A vehicle number on the outside rear of the vehicle.
Driver must have a taxicab drivers license from the Ann Arbor Police Department displayed.
A taxi meter must be installed.
A rate card should be visible.
Comment cards should be easily accessible to passengers from the rear seats.
Police warn if a vehicle does not have these items displayed, then the vehicle is not a legal taxicab authorized to pick-up passengers in Ann Arbor.
Limousines are not required to display a city bond plate, but are required to have a MDOT limousine tag displayed on the left rear driver's side door window.

Ann Arbor police say limousine drivers can only pick-up pre-arranged fares and must carry a current driving record for passengers to view.
