This year, the University of Detroit Mercy’s College of Business Administration is expanding its academic offerings with a new concentration in real estate -- an initiative driven by growing student interest and the expanding opportunities in commercial property.

Developed in close partnership with real estate professionals, the program prepares students for careers in commercial real estate, property development, management, investment and related fields. The curriculum emphasizes practical skills and real-world application through courses such as Fundamentals of Real Estate, The Legal Environment of Real Estate, Real Estate Appraisal, and Real Estate Investment, all taught by experienced industry experts.

More than just coursework, the college is dedicated to connecting classroom learning with career success. Instructors include prominent professionals from leading firms like Rocket Mortgage and L. Mason Capitani, offering students direct access to industry insights and mentorship.

“A number of our students have already accepted internships in the real estate industry,” said Joseph Eisenhauer, dean of the College of Business Administration. “And a group of business students interested in this program have already started a Real Estate Club.”

Detroit Mercy’s commitment extends beyond academics through a strategic partnership with the Ferguson Foundation in Chicago. This collaboration enriches the student experience by providing mentorship, leadership development and scholarships -- especially supporting women and minority students pursuing real estate careers.

With the addition of the real estate concentration, the college now offers 12 undergraduate tracks, including sports management, accounting, social entrepreneurship, international business and more – all of which allows students to customize their education to fit their career goals.

These advancements come as Detroit Mercy’s College of Business Administration continues to earn national acclaim. In U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges 2025 edition, the College ranks among the nation’s best in several categories:

  • No. 18 in Entrepreneurship
  • No. 24 in Management
  • No. 36 in Finance
  • No. 16 for the graduate-level Management program

With a focus on real-world readiness, strong industry partnerships and top-tier rankings, Detroit Mercy’s College of Business Administration is not only responding to market demands but also shaping the future of business education in Detroit and beyond.
