Michigan finishes with top 10 recruiting class on NSD

No. 1 overall recruit Rashan Gary among newest Wolverines

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – National Signing Day is finally here and today Jim Harbaugh will put together his first full recruiting class as Michigan's head football coach.

You can follow along with the proceedings live right here and the class takes shape. Michigan currently holds the No. 5 class in the country (according to Scout.com), but some big potential targets will fall in place throughout the day.

Here's a look at the class as it stands (newest announcements at the top):

DT Rashan Gary

Status: Announced commitment at 1:13 p.m. Wednesday
High School: Paramus Catholic High School in Paramus, New Jersey

Here's the biggest domino to fall in the entire recruiting season. The No. 1 overall recruit in the country and one of the most highly-ranked high school prospects of the last several seasons announced his commitment to Michigan over basically every other school in the country. Gary is an absolute beast who can play any position on the defensive line. His skills were on display at the Under Armour All-American game, when he spent almost every snap in the backfield. Gary will likely jump right into a starting role on Michigan's D-Line and wreak havoc in 2016.

CB Lavert Hill

Status: Announced commitment at 9:41 a.m. Wednesday
High School: King High School in Detroit, Michigan

One of the most coveted recruits in the state of Michigan narrowed his list down to Michigan and Michigan State (Penn State was also in the mix) heading into National Signing Day. He announced his commitment to Harbaugh's staff at the Detroit Public Schools announcement event and said he made his final decision Wednesday morning when he woke up. Hill is the seventh-best cornerback prospect in the country and will join his brother, Delano Hill, and close friend and All-American cornerback Jourdan Lewis in the Wolverine secondary.

K Quinn Nordin

Status: Announced commitment at 11:06 a.m. Wednesday
High School: Rockford High School in Rockford, Michigan

Nordin became famous in the recruiting world when Harbaugh showed up at his home for a sleepover. Nordin said Harbaugh came over and slept in his guest room and they went to school the next day. A few weeks later, Nordin decommited from Penn State and it was clear he would end up being a Wolverine. Nordin is the top kicking recruit in the country and a rare four-star rank at kicker. He'll have a chance to compete for playing time the moment he gets on campus, even with last year's starter Kenny Allen returning.

TE Devin Asiasi

Status: Announced commitment at 3:32 p.m. on Wednesday
High School: De La Salle High School in Concord, California

Asiasi stunned many when he split from his best friend and high school teammate Boss Tagaloa to commit to Michigan. Asiasi is the No. 4 tight end in the country and will likely have an immediate impact on the field for the Wolverines. He's a great receiving tight end, though he could work on his yardage after the catch. Michigan made a late push to get Asiasi and he's one of the gems in this class.

LB Josh Uche

Status: Sent in Letter of Intent
High School: Christopher Columbus in Miami, Florida

Uche didn't create much buzz around the recruiting world prior to his commitment, but he held offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Miami and others before committing to the Wolverines in January. Uche was considered a linebacker-defensive end hybrid before announcing on Twitter that he would be playing outside linebacker at Michigan. Linebacker is the thinnest spot on Michigan's roster, so Uche will battle for early playing time and perhaps get a look at the BUCK position.

ATH Khaleke Hudson

Status: Sent in LOI
High School: McKeesport Area in McKeesport, Pennsylvania

Hudson is listed only as an "athlete" because he excellent on both sides of the ball in high school, primarily at running back and safety. The dynamic 6-footer comes to Ann Arbor after being courted by much of the Big Ten and fits the bill of a hard-nosed, Harbaugh-type player. With Michigan's growing depth at running back, Hudson is likely to begin camp as a safety, but he could be a candidate to take over the Jabrill Peppers role when it opens up.

WR Nate Johnson

Status: Committed Wednesday morning
High School: Independence High School in Thompson's Station, Tennessee

Johnson went back and forth between Michigan and Notre Dame after verbally pledging to the Wolverines in December. But after taking his official visit to South Bend, the wideout reaffirmed his commitment to Michigan on signing day. He's the second wide receiver in the class, joining Ahmir Mitchell.

RB Kareem Walker

Status: Enrolled early
High School: De Paul Catholic in Wayne, New Jersey

Walker is currently the highest-ranked commit in Michigan's class and the only 5-star. The star running back enrolled early after flipping his commitment to Michigan from Ohio State late in 2015. Expect Walker, one of the top running back prospects in the nation, to compete with the likes of De'Veon Smith for playing time next season.

WR Ahmir Mitchell

Status: Enrolled early
High School: Cedar Creek in Egg Harbor City, New Jersey

In a class that's absolutely loaded with wide receiver talent, Mitchell was one of the first dominos to fall, committing to Michigan on the day of the team's preseason kickoff party. Mitchell is a matchup nightmare with his size and speed, and he's also been one of the most vocal supporters and recruiters for Michigan since hitting the campus.

OG Michael Onwenu

Status: Signed LOI
High School: Cass Tech in Detroit, Michigan

Onwenu was committed to the Wolverines since June 2, but made it official Tuesday night when he held a special podcast to choose between Michigan and Michigan State. Onwenu is a highly-ranked offensive guard, but coaches think he can play tackle, if needed.

TE Nick Eubanks

Status: Signed LOI
High School: American Heritage School in Plantation, Florida

Michigan was courting a few tight ends in mid-January to try to fill out Harbaugh's most highly-regarded position. Eubanks snatched the spot on Jan. 28 and will learn under Jake Butt in 2016. Eubanks was the third best tight end prospect in Florida and will have a chance to be a legitimate receiving threat at the Big House. His blocking will be a work in progress during camp.

WR Eddie McDoom

Status: Signed LOI
High School: West Orange High School in Winter Garden, Florida

When McDoom originally committed to Oregon, Michigan thought it had missed out on the most electric receiver in its class. But McDoom decommitted last month and joined the Wolverines on Jan. 27, giving the offense a future home run threat. His high school coach told the football world that McDoom can turn any play into a touchdown.

DE Ron Johnson

Status: Signed LOI
High School: Camden High School in Camden, New Jersey

Ron Johnson committed to Michigan in June and will be one of the team's most athletic defensive lineman when he gets into the rotation.

DT Michael Dwumfour

Status: Signed LOI
High School: De Paul Catholic in Wayne, New Jersey

At 6 feet 1 inch tall, Dwumfour isn't big for a defensive lineman, but he's an excellent athlete and he can make plays in space, much like Willie Henry did for the Wolverines before declaring for the NFL Draft.

OG Stephen Spanellis

Status: Signed LOI
High School: Gilman School in Baltimore, Maryland

Spanellis' commitment to Michigan came out of nowhere, but it was a timely pickup for Harbaugh after the Erik Swenson saga. Last week, Devery Hamilton flipped to Stanford, making this commitment even more important.

WR Dylan Crawford

Status: Signed LOI
High School: Santa Margarita Catholic in Santa Margarita, California

Crawford is one of the best offensive signings in the class. He can make plays down field or over the middle, if he has to. Crawford will be a guy to watch in 2017 when Michigan loses its top three targets in Jehu Chesson, Amara Darboh and Jake Butt.

WR Brad Hawkins

Status: Signed LOI
High School: Camden High School in Camden, New Jersey

Unlike speed guys like McDoom and Crawford, Hawkins is more of a route running extraordinaire and will give Michigan a reliable target in the short passing game. Hawkins committed to Michigan in July and was one of the huge pieces to keep the New Jersey pipeline wide open for Harbaugh.

QB Brandon Peters

Status: Enrolled early
High School: Avon High School in Avon, Indiana

Harbaugh held onto Peters after the star prospect committed to the Wolverines way back on April 4, 2015. Peters is one of the top quarterback commits in the country and figures to be the heir in waiting after the group of John O'Korn, Alex Malzone and Wilton Speight have graduated. Peters has a strong arm and can really fit the pro-style offense Harbaugh wants to run. He's also got enough mobility to escape pressure and make the occasional play with his feet, much like Jake Ruddock did in his season with the Maize and Blue.

ATH Chris Evans

Status: Signed LOI
High School: Ben Davis High School in Indianapolis, Indiana

Harbaugh could rave about Chris Evan's versatility all day. This guy can play running back, wide receiver and returner and should be seen all over the field.

CB David Long

Status: Signed LOI
High School: Loyola High School in Los Angeles, California

Long is committed to Michigan as one of the top secondary prospects in this year's class. He's one of those elite athletes who dominated on both sides of the ball in high school and can play some special teams at the college level. Since his commitment on Jan. 21, Long has been an ambassador for Michigan and helped reel in some of the recent recruits to Ann Arbor.

S Devin Gil

Status: Signed LOI
High School: Charles W. Flanagan High School in Pembroke Pines, Florida

In June, Gil joined the flow of Flanagan prospects heading north to Ann Arbor. Gil is 6 feet 1 inch tall, which is huge for a safety, but he could also fit in at linebacker if Harbaugh sees that potential during camp. He was a big play guy in high school, something Michigan's defense lacked even during a great defensive campaign in 2015.

LB Elysee Mbem-Bosse

Status: Signed LOI
High School: Cedar Grove High School in Ellenwood, Georgia

Mbem-Bosse committed to Michigan just two weeks ago along with his friend, Josh Uche. Mbem-Bosse hasn't been playing football for long, and he's already a three-star recruit. Harbaugh will get the most out of this linebacker, who's ceiling is higher than many highly-ranked recruits.

S Josh Metellus

Status: Signed LOI
High School: Charles W. Flanagan in Pembroke Pines, Florida

Metellus committed to Michigan over the summer and joins a secondary that will lose much of its veteran talent after next season. He'll have a chance to get in that mix in 2017.

OT Ben Bredeson

Status: Signed LOI
High School: Arrowhead High School in Hartland, Wisconsin

Michigan's best offensive line commit is Ben Bredeson, who comes to the Wolverines from Wisconsin. Wisconsin is one of the most fertile offensive line recruiting grounds in the country, so Harbaugh's ability to pluck one of the best from that area shows his power as a recruiter.

DE Carlo Kemp

Status: Enrolled early
High School: Fairview in Boulder, Colorado

One of Harbaugh's best cross-country steals came in November, when the best player in Colorado committed to play for the Wolverines. Kemp was originally recruited as a linebacker, but figures to play on the defensive line at Michigan. His strength and versatility will give new defensive coordinator a chance to move Kemp around, perhaps in a similar way to how Mario Ojemudia was used last season.

LB Devin Bush

Status: Enrolled early
High School: Charles W. Flanagan in Pembroke Pines, Florida

Bush was a surprising steal for Michigan in mid-December as he chose the Wolverines over his father's alma mater and hometown favorite Florida State. Bush is an athletic linebacker who will help cover the whole field for Michigan, a team desperate for help at the linebacker position. He'll have a chance to compete for freshman playing time.

TE Sean McKeon

Status: Enrolled early
High School: Shepherd Hill Reg in Dudley, Massachusetts

Mckeon is the first tight end to join the 2016 class and benefit from the tutelage of tight end experts Jim and Jay Harbaugh. Mckeon is already on campus, but will have to battle for any early playing time thanks to a solid tight end class and the return of all-Big Ten Jake Butt.

RB Kingston Davis

Status: Enrolled early
High School: Prattville High School in Prattville, Alabama

Michigan snatched Davis out of SEC country despite interest from hometown Alabama and offers from conference rivals LSU and Mississippi State. Davis committed to the Wolverines in April and is on campus with Walker to battle for running back reps.
