Red Wings have less than 1% chance of making playoffs right now

DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings won't be keeping the franchise's 25-year playoff streak alive.

That's according to all the playoff probability report builders you'll find -- like this one from sportsclubstats.com. After Sunday's 6-3 loss to the Minnesota Wild, the Red Wings now have a less than 1 percent chance of making a post-season appearance. The Vegas odds right now for Detroit to win the Stanley Cup are 150 to 1.

Anyone who has been watching the floundering Red Wings this season won't be surprised. And for those fans who think the team should tank for a better 1st-round draft pick, congratulations and welcome to tank city.

This is the team's final season at Joe Louis Arena, and beloved owner Mike Ilitch just died before he could see his Little Caesars Arena open. If ever there was a time the Red Wings and their fans needed a miracle, it's right now.

The 2017 NHL Entry Draft is June 23 in Chicago. Mock drafts, such as this one, have the Red Wings picking 4th. There are plenty of games left for the team to improve that draft position.

It's fair to note that with 26 games left to play the Red Wings are only 7 points out of a playoff spot. If they win, say, four in a row, they could be in the mix again. But then they'd have to keep a .500 record, and that hasn't been their style this season.
