This is the first meeting between the cross-conference teams this season, with the second meeting scheduled for Nov. 15 in Detroit.

About the Flames (8-7-0)

Johnny Gaudreau's 19 points lead the Flames, who will try to bounce back from a 5-3 loss Tuesday night against the Vancouver Canucks. It was their first loss in 4 games and the 4th game of a seven-game homestand which has included wins over the Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins.

Goalie Mike Smith has given the Flames some consistency in the crease. He has a record of 8-6 in 14 games played with an impressive .923 save percentage. Smith, who joined the team in the offseason, could be the piece Calgary was missing if they want a real shot at making the playoffs.

About the Red Wings (8-7-1)

The Red Wings are 4-5-1 in their past 10 games and are rolling on a two-game winning streak. They are led by a young group of forwards who are starting to find the back of the net with more routine. Dylan Larkin has 14 points while Anthony Mantha has 7 goals (13 points).

Veteran goalie Jimmy Howard boasts a .927 save percentage. However, Petr Mrazek likely gets the start Thursday night in Calgary. Mrazek has taken on more of a backup role this season. He stopped all 36 shots that he faced in the Red Wings' shutout win over the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday.
