In classic Ohio State fashion, VP drops trophy at White House football celebration

JD Vance says he didn’t want anyone else to get trophy after Buckeyes

WASHINGTON – It turns out the Saturday after Thanksgiving isn’t the only day for dropping things at Ohio State.

The Buckeyes were at the White House on Monday to celebrate their national championship during the inaugural season of the 12-team College Football Playoff.

Apparently, nobody told Vice President J.D. Vance that the trophy is designed to detach from the base, because when he picked it up, the base fell on the ground and the trophy had to be awkwardly saved by a member of the team.

Vance was born in Ohio and served as a senator for the state before joining President Donald Trump on the ballot. He also got a bachelor’s degree from Ohio State University before going to law school at Yale.

Vance made light of the situation afterward, posting, "I didn’t want anyone after Ohio State to get the trophy, so I decided to break it."

Even though the Buckeyes lost to Michigan for the fourth-straight year -- a shocking 13-10 upset in Columbus -- they qualified for the expanded playoff and beat Tennessee, Oregon, Texas, and Notre Dame to claim the title.
