Lee Corso, one of the most celebrated college football analysts of all time, is set to retire from “College GameDay” this year.
Corso, 89, has spent the last 38 years as a mainstay on ESPN’s popular pregame show. He’s long been the face of Saturday mornings in the fall, and is best known for his “headgear” picks right before noon kickoffs.
ESPN announced Thursday that Corso’s final broadcast will be Aug. 30, 2025. There will be additional programming to celebrate his long career, according to the announcement.
Before his TV career, Corso spent 15 years as a college football coach at Louisville, Indiana, and Northern Illinois. He played cornerback and quarterback at Florida State in the 1950s.
“College GameDay” won’t be quite the same without Corso’s “not so fast”s and headgear fake-outs. His gimmicks never got old -- in fact, they became woven into the fabric of the sport.
Rece Davis, Desmond Howard, and Kirk Herbstreit have been joined by the likes of Pat McAfee and Nick Saban at the desk in recent seasons.
After 38 incredible years, Lee Corso is retiring ❤️
