DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers now have six players heading to the MLB All-Star Game with the addition of Casey Mize to the American League roster.

Mize, 28, is enjoying a breakout season after each of the last three years were wiped out or affected by injury.

Through 15 starts, he owns a 2.63 ERA and 1.18 WHIP, and he’s struck out 73 batters in 85.2 innings. A 3.12 expected ERA backs up Mize’s strong season.

It’s been a five-pitch mix for Mize this year, though the four-seam fastball and splitter remain his primary weapons. He’s also using a slurve, a slider, and a sinker to keep hitters off balance.

Mize joins five other Tigers players on the AL roster -- starting second baseman Gleyber Torres, starting outfielders Riley Greene and Javier Baez, pitcher Tarik Skubal, and reserve utility man Zach McKinstry.

Tigers bat boy Frankie Boyd is also representing the Old English D in Atlanta next week.

The recognition is certainly deserved for the Tigers, who enter Friday’s action with a 13-game lead in the AL Central and the best overall record in MLB by three games.

Mize is scheduled to make his final start of the first half Saturday against the Seattle Mariners at Comerica Park.
