Here’s a quick look back at what happened.

Game 1 (12-2 Tigers)
Casey Mize (14-5, 3.83 ERA) took the bump in Game 1 vs. Will Warren (8-6, 4.22 ERA). Both starting pitchers went six innings and surrendered two runs each.
Mize struck out eight and looked excellent, generating six whiffs on his splitter and three on his slider.
Chris Paddack took over for Mize in the seventh inning and pitched three scoreless innings of relief, allowing no hits or runs and striking out four. It was by far his best outing with the Tigers, with his velocity up on almost all his pitches and his fastball generating swing-and-miss.
The offense showed up in a grandiose way with a nine-run seventh inning.
- Gleyber Torres, in his return to Yankee Stadium for the first time since wearing pinstripes, went 1-for-3 with a run scored, a hit, an RBI, and two walks.
- Kerry Carpenter went 1-for-5 with a run scored, two RBI, and a triple.
- Riley Greene went 2-for-5 with a run scored, an RBI, and a double.
- Parker Meadows went 3-for-5 with two runs scored, three RBI, and a home run.
Game 2 (11-1 Tigers)
Jack Flaherty (8-13, 4.69 ERA) started vs. Carlos Rodon (16-8, 3.11 ERA) and pitched a gem of five innings, allowing only two hits, no runs, and striking out seven.
Jack really had his fastball working – he was hitting the corners of the strike zone with pinpoint accuracy, his velocity was up, and it appeared to have carry at the top of the strike zone.
His fastball working the way it was makes his secondary pitches that much better. Not only did he throw his slider and knuckle curve for strikes, but together they generated five whiffs, throwing hitters off with filthy late movement.
Tyler Holton took over for Flaherty with a scoreless sixth inning. Troy Melton pitched two innings, letting in one run and striking out four. Brenan Hanifee pitched a scoreless ninth with a strikeout.
The offense showed up in a big way again, scoring eight runs in the final two innings.
- Riley Greene hit his 33rd home run of the season off Camilo Doval.
- Kerry Carpenter hit his 24th home run of the season off Tim Hill.
- Colt Keith hit his 13th of the season off Luke Weaver.
- Spencer Torkelson went 3-for-5 with two runs scored.
- Dillon Dingler went 3-for-5 with two runs scored.
- Parker Meadows went 2-for-4 with three runs scored, an RBI, and a walk.
Game 3 (9-3 Yankees)
Tyler Holton (5-5, 4.00 ERA) was the opener vs. flame-throwing rookie Cam Schlittler (3-3, 3.05 ERA). He pitched one inning, allowed two earned runs, and struck out two batters.
Sawyer-Gipson Long took over for Holton and had what was probably his toughest outing of the year. He pitched 2.1 innings and allowed 7 runs.
- Torres continued his trend of impeccable plate discipline, walking twice and hitting a double.
- Dingler went 2-4 with 2 RBI and a home run.
- Meadows continued his hit streak with a single. Since returning from the IL on Sept. 5, Meadows is hitting .467 with two home runs, three walks, and only one strikeout in 18 plate appearances.
The Tigers now have a record of 84-63 and are in first place in the American League central. Their “magic number” to clinch the central is now down to 8.
