Michigan Olympian Nick Baumgartner’s social media is the best part of The Olympics

You have to give him a follow

Michigan's Nick Baumgartner is having the most fun at the Olympics. (Instagram.)

If you’re anything like me, your eyes have been glued to the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics. The skating drama has been top tier, I suddenly think it would be fun to try being a speed skater, and I can’t get enough of the Canadian curling scandal.

I’ve also been obsessed with Michigan Olympian Nick Baumgartner and his hilarious Instagram account. This is Baumgartner’s fifth Olympics, and he’s been making the most of it by becoming a social media star of the games.

The 44-year-old snowboarder has totally embraced social media during this Olympics, and it’s been paying off for him. He had less than 100K followers on Instagram before the games, and as of February 17, he has almost hit 150K followers.

In case you don’t remember, our very own Ty Steele visited Baumgartner in his hometown of Iron River to see how he’s been training for his fifth Olympics. Baumgartner built his own snowboard cross course in his front yard that he could train on in preparation of making the Olympic team. It really is a sight to see.

Baumgartner’s videos on Instagram and TikTok have garnered millions of views so far, and he’s really leaning into being the “old man” at the Olympics. One of my favorite videos he posted was a joke about him being too old to be at the Olympics. You can watch the clip below.

He’s also been making videos lip syncing to famous Will Ferrell clips, which has been my favorite videos so far. Baumgartner kind of has that Will Ferrell charm, especially with his handlebar mustache.

If you’ve been loving all the Olympics content, you have to give Nick Baumgartner a follow. And make sure you check out Ty Steele’s interview with Baumgartner before he head off to Italy for the Olympics.
