DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers have unveiled their new alternate uniforms ahead of their spring training matchup against the New York Yankees, marking the start of Grapefruit League play.
The baseball season will begin Saturday, Feb. 21, at 1:05 p.m. inside George M. Steinbrenner Field in Tampa, Florida, but the new alternates are a fresh take on a Detroit classic.

The new “Red Hot” alternate uniforms, which were revealed on Thursday (Feb. 19), are inspired by the proud legacy of the Olde English “D” and the relentless energy of Detroit.

Featuring the Tigers’ signature orange and navy, the designs pay tribute to the electric passion and resilient spirit that have carried the team through generations of triumphs, including their unforgettable 1984 World Series championship.

The uniforms signal the Tigers’ confident progress into the future while remaining firmly rooted in tradition.

After a year and a half of engagement with players and fans through surveys, focus groups, and testing, it was revealed that both groups welcomed the new uniforms and wanted to keep the franchise’s legacy alive with a futuristic look and feel.
Detroit had two teams without regular alternate uniforms until they debuted the City Connect Motor City jerseys back in 2024, but it was time for a change.
The new alternates have a colorful twist on the lettering and text that have been a critical part of the Tigers’ rich history.
For instance, the Olde English “D,” seen on the Tigers’ home white jerseys, will be draped in navy on the chest of the new orange alternates for select Friday home games.
“Detroit,” which has been displayed across the chest of the road grey jerseys for decades, will now be seen in orange and white lettering ontop of the navy alternates for select away games.

Both jerseys feature elements from the 1984 Tigers, including three-color sleeve-end striping and V-necks, plus a new circular “Detroit Tigers” patch reminiscent of the team’s Tiger logo from 1961 to 1993.
The striping also adorns the accompanying white and gray pants.
To complete the look, the alternate caps feature an orange Olde English “D” on an orange bill, similar to a 1990s style.
The caps will be worn with the alternate jerseys once the regular season begins and will be available for purchase along with the jerseys.
The orange alternate jerseys will be part of the home rotation alongside the Motor City jerseys, which will serve as the City Connect jerseys for a third season.
A fresh take on a Detroit classic.
