Kyla Russell joined the Local 4 team in December 2025. She’s an award-winning journalist - most recently spending time in Indianapolis as an investigative reporter.
In Indianapolis, she reported on several high-profile court cases, including the Delphi double murder trial, broke several stories on the state’s mid-decade redistricting effort, and covered every aspect of the Indy 500! Through her source-building and willingness to ask important questions, she routinely uncovered corruption in city and state politics.
Prior to her time in Indianapolis, she worked in New York City at NBC News on the digital editorial team and at CNN on the health unit, where she had the opportunity to train under some of the best journalists in the country and interviewed multiple national leaders.
Kyla is an Emmy-nominated reporter and recipient of multiple awards from the Society of Professional Journalists for breaking news coverage and investigative reporting. She can’t wait to bring the same heart and empathy to her stories in the Motor City!
As a Midwest native, she’s looking forward to exploring all the area has to offer.
