Eliud Kipchoge and Sifan Hassan are gearing up for their first New York Marathon.

Abdi Nageeye of the Netherlands won the men’s race at the New York City Marathon and Sheila Chepkirui of Kenya took the women’s event.

Eliud Kipchoge pulled away late and no one could come close to catching him as the 36-year-old Kenyan defended his Olympic marathon title.

Thousands of people, including medalists who have returned from Tokyo, gathered near the Eiffel Tower to welcome the handover of the Olympic flag to Paris, which will host the Games in 2024.

Appearing impossibly stronger as the race wore on, Eliud Kipchoge of Kenya on Sunday added to his constantly growing legend by dominating in the heat and humidity at Sapporo Odori Park to add the men's marathon gold at the Tokyo Olympics to the gold he won at Rio 2016.
