Separately, USC earlier agreed to pay $215 million to settle a class-action lawsuit that applies to about 18,000 women who were patients of Tyndallโs. The individual payouts to those victims range from $2,500 to $250,000, and were given regardless of whether the women formally accused Tyndall of harassment or assault.

Tyndall was a gynecologist at the University of Southern California for almost 30 years, until he was fired in 2017. He's accused of inappropriately touching 16 patients during his work at USC's campus health clinic. The medical board said Tyndall's license was surrendered effective last Thursday. Tyndall faces 18 counts of sexual assault and 11 counts of sexual battery.

Tyndall is charged with 29 felonies, including 18 counts of sexual penetration and 11 counts of sexual battery by fraud.

The complaint alleges that Tyndall told some of the women the touching was for a professional purpose when it was for sexual gratification. A university lawyer told CNN last year that as many as 17,000 women could qualify for the class action settlement.
