A jury has quickly rejected a man’s claim that Disney’s “Moana” was stolen from his story of a young surfer in Hawaii.

“Moana 2,” the third-biggest movie box-office hit of 2024, and Amanda Seyfried playing a Philadelphia patrol officer fighting rampant opioid addiction in Peacock's “Long Bright River” are some of this week’s new streaming entertainment releases.

In the holiday season battle of big-budget family movies, Paramount Pictures’ “Sonic the Hedgehog 3” sped past the Walt Disney Co.’s “Mufasa: The Lion King” to take the top spot at the box office.

“Moana 2” remains at the top of the box office in its second weekend in theaters as it pulled in another record haul.

“Moana 2” brought in a tidal wave of moviegoers over the Thanksgiving Day weekend with $221 million in ticket sales.

This fall, Hollywood will be trying — with everything from swaggering historical epics like “Gladiator II” to the high-seas adventure of “Moana 2” — to capture the nation’s attention at a time when much of it will be directed at the polls.

Disney used its D23 fan convention to tease upcoming movies and television series including “Moana 2,” “Incredibles 3” and the live-action “Snow White” in a rousing showcase Friday featuring sneak peaks, live performances and surprise appearances from actors.
