That determination outraged Fullers family, who said authorities were too quick to dismiss the possibility of a crime. Following Fullers death, more than 1,000 people attended a peaceful protest and memorial around the tree where his body was found. A week after Fullers death, his half-brother, Terron J. Boone, was fatally shot by Los Angeles County sheriffs deputies. Publicity surrounding Fullers case prompted Harschs family to seek further investigation of his death.

A passerby reported seeing Robert Fuller's body around 3 a.m. Wednesday. Fullers death has generated intense scrutiny, especially after nationwide protests rebuking the police killing of George Floyd. More than 100,000 people signed an online petition demanding a full investigation into Fuller's death. Residents demanded surveillance video around the time and place where Fuller's body was found. Ron Shaffer said homicide detectives were investigating the circumstances leading to Fuller's death to determine if foul play was involved.
