Metro Detroit law enforcement gathered Sunday to honor Cpl. Mohamed Said, who was killed in the line of duty nearly a year ago.

In what was an at times tense meeting, the Melvindale City Council voted to hire a private investigator to investigate several issues within the city’s police department.

Staffing shortages are common right now, but officers in Melvindale said they are losing officers at an alarming rate.
