DETROIT – Both the local and express lanes of Interstate 96 will be closed this weekend in Detroit.
The Michigan Department of Transportation said bridge work will force crews to close the interstate beginning at 9 p.m. Friday. The interstate is expected to be open by 5 a.m. Monday.
Here's how the closure breaks down:
I-96 Express Lanes Closed:
Eastbound I-96 Express Lanes closed from M-39 (Southfield Freeway) to Davison Avenue. Detour: Southbound M-39 to eastbound I-94
Westbound I-96 Express Lanes closed from Livernois to Wyoming. Detour: Westbound I-94 to northbound M-39
I-96 Local Lanes Closed:
Eastbound I-96 Local Lanes closed from Schaefer Highway to Davison. Detour: Schaefer to Grand River to Livernois to 96
Westbound I-96 Local Lanes closed from Livernois to Wyoming. Detour: Livernois to Grand River to Schaefer to 96
Other freeway closures this weekend in Metro Detroit:
I-696: In Oakland County, EB I-696, Southfield Rd to Coolidge, 2 lanes open, 9 p.m.-5 a.m., Monday and Tuesday for lighting work.
I-75: In Oakland County, SB I-75, 11 Mile to I-696, 1 lane closed 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday for utility work.
US-12: (Michigan Ave): In Wayne County, WB US-12, Venoy to Wayne Rd, 2 lanes open, 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday for pavement repairs.
Monday: In Wayne County, WB I-96 at M-39, Express & Local Lanes, left lane closed, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday and Tuesday for bridge work.
