Volunteers pack thousands of food boxes for kids facing summer hunger

Summer break poses a threat of hunger for thousands of children in Southeast Michigan, as many rely on school meals during the academic year. To combat this, Local 4 and Gleaners Community Food Bank have initiated the Go-4-It campaign, engaging over 100 volunteers to pack nutritious food boxes for over 300,000 food-insecure kids. Statistics reveal that one in five children in the region depend on free school meals, highlighting the critical role of volunteers who help distribute over 120,000 meals daily through a network of 350 partner agencies.
