Detroit Toys for Tots organizer overwhelmed by record holiday toy requests

Retired Marine Master Sergeant Phil Smith, a Toys for Tots organizer with nearly three decades of experience, is currently overwhelmed by a record number of applications from families seeking holiday assistance. This increased demand underscores the significance of the upcoming Go 4 It toy drive event in December, where Smith and volunteers are working tirelessly to distribute toys to families in need across various locations. The event, in partnership with Local 4 and Kroger, aims to collect new, unwrapped toys for children up to 12 years old, with donations being accepted at Kroger on Fort Street in Southgate.
