Melatonin's antioxidant effects linked to lower AMD risk
A new study suggests that melatonin supplements, commonly used to improve sleep, may also help prevent age-related macular degeneration (AMD) in adults over 50. The study involving over 121,000 patients found that melatonin takers had a reduced risk of developing AMD and were less likely to progress to severe stages compared to non-takers. While the findings are preliminary, further clinical trials are needed to confirm these benefits and determine optimal dosing.
