July 2025 already sets new record for tick bites

In July 2025, tick bites have surged to record levels, setting new highs for emergency room visits, surpassing the previous record from 2017. This increase, especially evident in Michigan, is attributed to climate change expanding tick habitats, leading to more cases of Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, and anaplasmosis. Children under 10, adults over 70, and men are the most affected. Ticks thrive in wooded, grassy areas, and their bites are often painless. Preventative measures include using insect repellent, conducting tick checks, and showering after outdoor activities.
