Rising e-bike, scooter injuries among youth spark safety concerns

E-bikes and scooters have gained popularity among teens and young adults for their convenience, but they have led to a significant increase in injuries, particularly among children and teens, according to the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Marc Levy notes a 250% rise in emergency room visits due to such accidents at his hospital, with head injuries being the most common and some resulting in fatalities. Many incidents involve riders not wearing helmets or using inadequately rated ones, emphasizing the need for appropriate protective gear. Virginia Tech's helmet ratings, developed with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, are recommended for ensuring helmet safety.
