University of Michigan’s unique approach to proactive fall risk assessment

The University of Michigan has introduced "JEDII," a program developed to proactively assess fall risks before they occur. The program utilizes three tests: the Sensation Test for foot sensation, the Strength Test for hip and trunk strength, and the Brain Speed Test for mental processing speed. Dr. James K. Richardson highlights that excelling in two of the three areas can mitigate risk, but deficiencies in two or average results in all three put individuals at higher risk. Solutions include physical therapy, strength training, and medication review based on specific test results.
