Flu season warning, vaccine urged after deadliest year in 15 years

Last year's flu season was the worst in 15 years, and early reports from Japan and the U.K. indicate a potentially severe season this year, particularly affecting children and young adults. The American Medical Association, represented by Dr. Lase Ajayi, is urging flu vaccinations, emphasizing their safety and effectiveness in reducing severe complications, with data showing significant reductions in hospitalization risks for both adults and children. Additionally, declining childhood vaccination rates have led to a surge in whooping cough cases, posing serious risks to babies who are too young to be vaccinated. Last year saw 280 child deaths from flu and about 1.1 million flu-related hospitalizations, highlighting the critical need for vaccination and preventive measures.
