Wrong-Way driver pleads in crash that killed parents of 6
Angel Melendez-Ortiz, 35, pleaded no contest to multiple charges, including second-degree murder, after causing a fatal head-on collision while driving a stolen pickup truck the wrong way on the Lodge Freeway. The crash, which occurred on January 6, 2024, resulted in the deaths of Jen and Ryan Ambrosio, parents of six from Farmington Hills, who were returning home from a date night. Melendez-Ortiz, fleeing from police at speeds over 100 mph, turned off his headlights and reentered the freeway in the wrong direction before the collision. He faced ten charges, including fleeing police, reckless driving, and operating under the influence causing death, and pleaded no contest on May 13, 2025.
