Prosecutor: No new trial for officer in Patrick Lyoya case

A Michigan prosecutor decided not to pursue a retrial for former Grand Rapids officer Christopher Schurr, who shot and killed Patrick Lyoya, a Black man, during a traffic stop. The initial trial ended without a unanimous verdict, as many jurors leaned towards acquittal, and the prosecutor doubted a different outcome in a second trial. Schurr claimed self-defense, asserting Lyoya had control of his Taser, while the prosecutor's experts argued alternatives were possible. The decision has sparked disappointment among civil rights activists and Lyoya's family, who are pursuing a lawsuit for excessive force.
