Chinese student nabbed for smuggling at DTW

Chengxuan Han, a Chinese Ph.D. student from Huazhong University of Science and Technology, was arrested at Detroit Metro Airport on charges of smuggling biological materials into the United States. She allegedly sent four improperly documented packages containing biological samples to University of Michigan lab workers, disguising them as items like plastic plates and hiding them within books. Despite making false statements and having her phone wiped, Han admitted to sending research materials ahead of her arrival for a project, although her professors were unaware of these shipments. Han now faces federal charges for smuggling and false declarations.
