Suspected tire thief arrested after swimming across pond to evade police

A suspected tire thief, 31-year-old Trachawn McCaa, was arrested after attempting to evade police by swimming across a pond in Southfield early Tuesday. Police pursued a Chrysler Pacifica minivan, rented by the suspects and used to flee after stealing tires from a Ford F-150. During the chase, the minivan collided with a police cruiser, injuring two officers. McCaa and 51-year-old Prince Madison, both with prior felony records, were charged with larceny, with McCaa also facing charges of fleeing and eluding; both received bonds and must wear GPS tethers if released.
