Nurses, support staff strike at McLaren Macomb Hospital over labor issues

Hundreds of nurses and support staff at McLaren Macomb Hospital in Mount Clemens have gone on a planned three-day strike, claiming unfair labor practices and demanding better nurse-to-patient ratios and pay. The strike, organized by OPEIU Local 40, started on July 7 and involves about 700 workers, including 500 nurses. McLaren Macomb Hospital has stated it remains fully operational with replacement staff, despite the ongoing dispute, and has offered a proposal including a 15 percent pay increase over three years, nationally benchmarked staffing ratios, and enhanced retention bonuses. The negotiation deadlock continues as the union rejects the hospital's terms, citing ongoing staffing issues and the need for better working conditions.
