Michigan to eliminate millions in medical debt for 210,000 residents
Michigan has partnered with Undue Medical Debt, a nonprofit organization, to alleviate $144 million in medical debt for approximately 210,000 residents. Announced by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and other officials, this initiative aims to provide immediate relief to families affected by medical debt, a leading cause of bankruptcy in the U.S. The nonprofit acquires medical debt at a fraction of its cost and clears it without requiring any action from debtors. This partnership, especially crucial with upcoming Medicaid cuts, has already cleared significant debt in Wayne County and other areas.
