Michigan to eliminate millions in medical debt for 210,000 residents

Michigan has partnered with Undue Medical Debt, a nonprofit organization, to alleviate $144 million in medical debt for approximately 210,000 residents. Announced by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and other officials, this initiative aims to provide immediate relief to families affected by medical debt, a leading cause of bankruptcy in the U.S. The nonprofit acquires medical debt at a fraction of its cost and clears it without requiring any action from debtors.
