97-year-old man rescued after falling into Grand River

A 97-year-old man, Fredrick Unger, was rescued after falling into the Grand River in Grand Haven. Coast Guardsman Joseph Turk, who has been with the service for less than a year, quickly responded by jumping into the water and, with the help of bystanders, managed to keep Unger afloat until a rescue team arrived with additional equipment. Unger, who was initially floating face down, was turned over and able to speak once his airways were cleared. He was taken to the hospital with a fractured neck and is expected to make a full recovery.
