School safety data: Bullying, violent crime in SE Michigan schools

Local 4's investigation into Michigan school safety reveals data on bullying and violent crimes from Michigan’s student safety program (OK2SAY) and the Center for Educational Performance and Information (CEPI). During the 2024-25 school year, Michigan schools reported 893 victims of violent crime and 10,920 bullying incidents. Detroit Public Schools Community District, being the largest, reported 408 violent crime victims and 675 bullying incidents that year, attributing high numbers to its unique police reporting system. Other schools, such as Jalen Rose Leadership Academy and Utica Community Schools, also showed varying bullying incident reports, reflecting diverse safety challenges across districts.
