What to know about foodborne illness outbreaks

With recent foodborne illness outbreaks, a doctor from Henry Ford Health highlighted how families can stay safe and what to know about the outbreaks. At least 31 babies in 15 states have gotten sick in a botulism outbreak linked to ByHeart infant formula. Last week, lab tests revealed all of the company’s products may have been contaminated with the rare and potentially deadly illness. ByHeart recalled all of its formula last month, but the FDA said some products are still on store shelves. Also, last month, there was an outbreak of listeria linked to pasta meals. At least six people died from listeria tied to prepared pasta meals from Nate’s Fine Foods.  Several grocery stores had to issue recalls for products, including Kroger, Walmart and Trader Joe’s. An investigation into this outbreak is still ongoing.
