New Sterling Heights rules aim to protect residents from crypto fraud

The Sterling Heights city council is preparing to vote on a new ordinance aimed at regulating cryptocurrency machines to combat scams affecting residents. This initiative follows incidents like that of Kimberly Ryan, who lost her life savings to a scam involving Bitcoin ATMs. Police Chief Andrew Satterfield highlighted the urgency of the issue, noting 23 related cases investigated by the department. The ordinance proposes enhanced security measures, user verification protocols, and clearer warnings at crypto machines to protect consumers.
