Hearing: Hyperbaric chamber manufacturer testifies after boy's death at Oakland County facility

The preliminary examination for the workers charged in the Oakland County hyperbaric explosion continued this week, and on Dec. 1, 2025, Majid Mashayekh, the vice president of quality assurance for Sechrist Industries, the company that manufacturers the hyperbaric chambers, testified. Tamela Peterson, 58, of Brighton, Jeffrey Mosteller, 65, of Clinton Township, Gary Marken, 66, of Spring Arbor and Aleta Moffitt, 60, of Rochester Hills, were charged after Thomas Cooper was killed when the hyperbaric chamber he was receiving treatment in exploded at the Oxford Center in Troy on Jan. 31, 2025. The boy’s mother was also injured in the explosion. Mashayekh testified about how the chamber where the explosion had occurred had more than that allowed number of cycles on it in November 2022, which prompted the company to send a letter to the facility to inform them that Sechrist would not service it anymore. Mashayekh's testimony concluded, but the preliminary hearing is scheduled to continue on Dec. 12.
