Former Michigan football HC Sherrone Moore held in Washtenaw County Jail amid assault investigation

Former Michigan football head coach Sherrone Moore has been detained in Washtenaw County Jail amid an assault investigation following his firing from the program on December 10, 2025. The Pittsfield Township Police, assisted by the Saline Police Department, detained Moore, but no charges or bond have been announced yet. Moore was dismissed after an investigation revealed an inappropriate relationship with a staff member, which violated university policy. With coaching positions filling up for the next season, Mike Poggi has been named interim head coach as the program faces uncertainty.
