Students in Michigan are improving but still rebounding from COVID-19, researchers say

A new report is shedding light on how kids are really doing in Michigan schools. Researchers at Michigan State University found that students are making strong gains in math, with scores now above pre-pandemic levels. However, students are struggling to hold on to that progress between school years. Reading is an even bigger challenge, especially for younger students. Scores have stayed flat since the pandemic, though lower-performing middle schoolers are starting to catch up. Schools that went fully remote in the 2020-2021 school year are making progress, but they’re still behind in overall scores. This year, new laws aim to boost literacy by screening for dyslexia and changing how reading is taught. So what does this mean, and how can parents help their kids?
