Man charged with murder in shooting of Salvation Army bell ringer outside Westland Kroger

A 37-year-old man, Rene Miguel Zambrana, has been charged with first-degree murder and felony firearm in the shooting death of Alvin Leon Echol, a 47-year-old Salvation Army bell ringer, outside a Westland Kroger. Police believe the two men knew each other.
