Squishy gel fidget toys risks, chemical burns, skin irritation reported
Consumer Reports investigated squishy gel fidget toys and found potential chemical risks, including skin irritation and chemical burns, particularly when toys break open. The investigation revealed that most toys had a neutral pH, but one product, Nee-Doh "Groovy Glob," had a pH as acidic as lemon juice, raising safety concerns. Despite challenges from the manufacturer Schylling, who claims the gel is safe, safety warnings have been issued against practices like microwaving these toys, as they may explode and cause burns. Parents are advised to supervise use, avoid giving these toys to young children, and properly dispose of broken toys.
