100+ cars involved in pileup on Michigan highway
More than 100 cars were involved in a massive pileup on a Michigan highway, and police said stranded drivers and passengers are being bused away from the crash scene. The pileup happened around 10:20 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19, 2026, on I-196 near 64th Avenue in Zeeland Township, according to the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office. Michigan State Police said 100 or more cars are involved in the pileup. The highway is closed in both directions from Hudsonville and Zeeland roads. Buses from Hudsonville Public Schools and MAX Transit are taking stranded drivers and passengers from the highway to Hudsonville High School, police said. People will then be able to get rides from the school. Drivers who are stranded at the crash scene should stay inside their cars until they can board a bus. Everyone is asked to avoid the area, as the highway is expected to be closed for several hours. Deputies said there are multiple injuries. Nobody has been pronounced dead, but further details about those injuries have not been revealed.
