Why Metro Detroit schools could decide to close Tuesday, Jan. 20, due to weather

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect across all of Southeast Michigan through Tuesday morning as snow showers and blowing snow combine with bitterly cold air on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. With Monday’s air temperatures in the teens, wind chill values are expected to fall below zero across much of the region. Expect wind chill values between 5 and 15 degrees below zero overnight and early Tuesday. The coldest readings are expected in the Thumb, where wind chills could approach -20 degrees.
