Congress passes bill to end government shutdown

Congress passed legislation on Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2026, to end the partial federal shutdown. The measure funds most of the federal government through Sept. 30, but only provides the Department of Homeland Security with short-term funding for two weeks. Lawmakers are expected to return to negotiate changes related to immigration enforcement.
