Lawmakers push CPS reform after Ethan Belcher tragedy

The tragic death of 5-year-old Ethan Belcher in Michigan has spurred calls for reforms in the state's Child Protective Services (CPS) system. Despite clear signs of abuse, CPS returned Ethan to his parents, leading to his death in 2023. In response, a proposed Senate Bill 605 seeks to increase CPS transparency and oversight by allowing legislators access to case information under confidentiality, aiming to prevent future tragedies and increase accountability.
