‘Cocoon’ of debris helps save driver in Dearborn garage collapse
A driver was trapped for over two hours in a Dearborn parking garage collapse, where two layers of the structure fell onto his vehicle. Despite challenges from snow and cold temperatures, Dearborn firefighters and the Western Wayne Urban Search and Rescue team successfully freed the driver, aided by a "cocoon" of debris that formed a protective void around him. Coordination and quick action were crucial, as rescuers used heavy equipment to reach the man and extract him through a window after breaking the glass. The city is investigating the collapse, and the garage management team has yet to comment.
