Ypsilanti Township industrial explosion leaves 3 injured and building 'shredded'

Three people were injured in an explosion in Ypsilanti Township on February 18, 2026, after a forklift hit a gas line, causing significant damage to a building on James L Hart Parkway. The injured were two managers and a maintenance worker who re-entered the building to ensure evacuation. Fire Chief Steven Densmore reported a partial building collapse, but Hazmat teams confirmed no ongoing hazard, and the gas was shut off. DTE Energy and witnesses noted the explosion's impact, with the building described as severely damaged.
