Gov. Gretchen Whitmer talks housing in final State of the State

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer used her final State of the State address to cover a wide range of issues, including literacy, medical debt, and housing. She advocated for increased access to affordable housing, introducing a proposal for a new state affordable housing tax credit. Some of her housing remarks appear connected to nine recently introduced bills that have drawn criticism from local leaders. Three township supervisors spoke with Local 4, expressing concern that Lansing’s proposals could strip authority from local governments, potentially harming their communities.
