‘Rollercoaster ride’: Parents say Oakland County potholes make trip to elementary school dangerous

Parents of students attending Hugger Elementary School in Oakland County are expressing concerns over the safety of Sheldon Road, the sole access route to the school, which is heavily potholed and deeply rutted. The poor condition of the gravel road forces school buses to travel slowly, and students are being jostled in their seats, raising safety issues. Despite the Road Commission for Oakland County's efforts to grade the road, temporary fixes are often washed out by rain. The main barrier to paving the road is limited federal funding, which only allows for paving about one mile of gravel road annually in Oakland County.
