Colorectal cancer now leading cause of cancer deaths for adults under 50
Colorectal cancer is increasingly affecting younger adults in the U.S., highlighting the importance of early detection and screening. Tim Beckner, a 43-year-old with no symptoms, discovered he had colorectal cancer following a colonoscopy recommended after an unrelated illness. Dr. Ajaratu Keshinro performed surgery to remove a third of his large intestine, allowing him to return to normal life. Experts attribute rising cancer rates in those under 50 to factors like obesity, poor diet, and inactivity, urging timely screening and attention to symptoms such as rectal bleeding and unexplained weight loss.
